The Role - Design Engineer
SimWest are supporting a well-established engineering manufacturer specialising in the design and manufacture of Heat Exchangers and Pressure Vessels for a wide range of industrial applications. Due to continued project growth, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Design Engineer with a strong background in pressure equipment design and compliance to recognised international codes.
This Design Engineer role is technically focused and offers involvement across the full design lifecycle of Heat Exchangers and Pressure Vessels from initial concept and design calculations through to detailed manufacturing drawings, fabrication support, inspection, and final compliance.
As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering compliant, high-quality Heat Exchangers and Pressure Vessels, working closely with manufacturing, projects, and quality teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop Heat Exchangers and Pressure Vessels for indutrial use
- Produce detailed design calculations in line with recognised pressure equipment codes and standards
- Generate GA drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Liaise with process engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams throughout the design lifecycle
- Provide technical support during fabrication, inspection, pressure testing, and commissioning
- Ensure Heat Exchangers and Pressure Vessels comply with PED / UKCA / CE requirements
- Support technical input for tenders, quotations, and project reviews where required
Required Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience as a Design Engineer working on Heat Exchangers and Pressure Vessels for industrial applications
- Strong knowledge of pressure equipment codes and standards
- Solid understanding of stress analysis, pressure loading, thermal expansion, and heat transfer
- Experience producing and reviewing design calculations for Pressure Vessels
- Competent using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar
- Good awareness of manufacturing principles, including welding, materials, NDT, and pressure testing
- Industry background in chemical, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, energy, or oil & gas sectors
- Degree, HND, or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field
What’s On Offer:
- Base Salary between £35,000 to £45,000 pa (depending on experience)
